WELCOME TO MY PRACTICE
I am Silvia DaRe, Italian-American Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Massachusetts. I am also a certified Psychologist and Psychotherapist in Italy.
I believe that therapy, among other things, is a journey of self-discovery, finding self-worth and healing. This journey starts with some level of pain, grief, confusion but if carefully guided, it can end with the resolution of the psychological challenges facing the clients. I would be honored if you’ll trust me to embark on this journey full of potential and hope.
The population I serve
Over the last 15 years I’ve worked as a Researcher in a cancer hospital, Family Therapist, Couple Therapist, Individual Therapist as well as Domestic Violence Counselor. I have also had the privilege of working in Child Protective Service and Women Services. I have been a School Clinician working with youths with a SED diagnosis (Serious Emotional Disturbance) for the past three years. At present, besides working in my private practice, I serve as a Mental Health Therapist in a Community Health Center in the Greater Boston Area, which enables me to contribute to my community.
I have worked in many racially, ethnically diverse communities across the country with clients from diverse age groups and of all sexual orientations over a wide range of issues and challenges. I consider myself very fortunate because my profession has enabled me to encounter a variety of human beings with different psychological challenges. This rich experience not only expanded my knowledge as a therapist, but has also made me a more compassionate, caring and nonjudgmental person.
Cultural Competency
I have an extensive experience supporting expatriates. As an expat myself, I know first-hand the psychological and emotional challenges that come with adjusting to new environments and the strain this can have on individuals, their relationships and family dynamics. Besides my personal experience, I intentionally trained to became a culturally competent therapist that strives to understand complex issues such as oppression and microaggressions, and support my clients to being their most authentic selves. Ask me more about this topic if it’s important to you, I’ll be glad to discuss it!
My expertise
I began my professional activity by studying Clinical Psychology in Padua, Italy, followed by a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy. As I began working more with couples, I decided to further specialize in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and complete training in this discipline in Boston, MA, Vancouver, CA and NYC. As my journey as therapist continued, it became clear to me the need to deepen my knowledge and ability to work with transgenerational effects of trauma or Intergenerational Trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorders (PTSD). Consequently, I’ve pursued a certification in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, better known as EMDR.
Although during my career I have learned and employed different approaches, my overarching vison is trauma informed.
